SIMPLICITY

On his way back to his office Innocence stops at another door and raps on it.

“COME IN,” the voice of a young boy calls from behind the door. Here once again sits a small 13 year-old boy behind a large desk. This is the office of Simplicity, the Secretary of State of Being. Unlike Ignorance the office of Simplicity is neat and unembellished. There is no art on the walls, just a single photo of his parents on his empty desktop. To the untrained eye Simplicity would appear to be flawless in character but if you had to find any flaws they would be only that he is bland and unassuming. His blonde hair is cut short and neat and he wears a plain gray suit with a solid black tie. His appearance is average looking and his mannerism is pleasant and easy going.

“I’m worried about Ignorance.” Innocence says as he sits in front of Simplicity.

“What did he do now?” Simplicity asks smiling.

“He went out and hired three new assistants. He hired them to keep Wisdom and Knowledge far away from the castle.”

Simplicity laughs. “Don’t worry about them. They know how to stay out of the way of Ignorance.”

Innocence also laughs, “I suppose you’re right.”

Simplicity smiles confidently, “Just keep it simple Sinless”. Simplicity uses Innocence’s nickname to emphasis the acronym KISS.

“Yep” Innocence nods, “Oh by the way. I wrote you a memo. I’ve been thinking about increasing the sentries on the castle walls.”

“Who do we have riding sentry now?” Simplicity shows concern.

“Naïve and Gullible but you know how they are.” Innocence answers.

“Yeah” Simplicity responses with a worried look, “you bet I do.”

Innocence gets up to leave. “Well anyway, see what you can do and get back to me.”

“You bet,” Simplicity reassures Innocence.
